The Brazilian bikini wax for men is becoming an ever more popular for the body conscious gent. Some wonder, what man would willingly allow his more intimate parts to be exposed to hot wax before having that wax ripped from his body? The answer is more guys than you might think!

What Is Waxing?

While many women are familiar with waxing as a hair removal technique, a lot of men have no knowledge of it outside of that hilarious (if not painful) scene in the film The 40 Year-Old Virgin with Steve Carrell. So if this is your only point of reference, here’s how its done!

A Brazilian bikini wax for men is similar to the waxing women experience. Waxing involves the application of warm wax on an area where you wish to remove hair; sometimes cloth is applied over it, sometimes not. After the area is smoothed, the wax is ripped away in one motion against the direction of hair growth. One of the most-touted benefits of waxing is that, unlike with shaving or tweezing, the waxed area will stay hair-free for weeks. When the hair does grow back, it’s generally finer and softer than before.

Men Who Wax

Some of the guys who enjoy the Brazilian bikini wax do so because of their profession or hobbies. It’s not surprising then that the following guys regularly take it all off:

But these aren’t the only men who like being bare down there. In major metropolitan cities like New York, Miami and Los Angeles, a growing number of straight men are shelling out big bucks to make for a perfectly smooth experience. While some people sing the praises of more heightened senses after waxing, others simply prefer a clean look.

What to Expect in a Brazilian Bikini Wax for Men

For the body conscious it’s all about the wax!

So you’re feeling courageous and have decided to go ahead with the ultimate wax job. Here’s what you’ll probably experience:

• If you’ve done your homework and consulted a trained aesthetician before your appointment, he or she should have told you to let your hair grow in the desired area and to possibly take pain medication before you come in.
• Leave your inhibitions at the door. You’re going to be exposed (very exposed) during the process.
• Talcum powder will be dusted over the area to be waxed.
• Warm or hot wax will be spread on the genital area in sections. The wax will probably be covered with cotton cloths.
• The aesthetician will then remove the strips of cloth, with the wax attached, in one smooth motion. This may be pretty painful. This will be repeated with each section.

Any stray hairs will be removed with tweezers. If you already chose a patch of hair to remain, this can now be trimmed and shaped.

Bikini Line Waxing

Regular Bikini Wax: Removes all the hair outside the panty line. It is good to tidy up before wearing a Bikini.

High Bikini Wax: Takes the sides of the bikini line deeper than a regular bikini wax, it leaves more flexibility than regular bikini line for a bikini type underwear.

Brazilian Wax: Takes all hair off the bikini line, from front all the way to the back except for a small strip from the front to the labia area. If you like to wear a thong bikini, Brazilian Waxing is a perfect option.

Hollywood Wax: Takes all hair off the bikini line, from front all the way to the back (including the bottom area). Sometimes a small strip or triangle is left in the front as you prefer. It is completely smooth.

Although Bikini Line waxing, Brazilian waxing and Hollywood waxing for men and women are the most popular hair removal treatments in beauty salons and beauty clinics, the terms “Brazilian Waxing” and “Hollywood Waxing” still confuse many people who have difference waxing experience, as they vary at various salons, spas or clinics. The prices of Brazilian waxing and Hollywood waxing are correspondingly different. In Skin Perfection Spa, we offer all above hair removal treatments.

What should I do before Hollywood waxing (Brazilian waxing)?

Thoroughly cleaning your private parts before waxing is necessary for hygiene reasons even though hair removal therapists normally apply some surgical spirit or anti-bacterial spray or liquid during treatment.

Trim hair length to around 1cm to avoid hairs overlapping – interlaced hairs can easily cause bruising or terrible pain.

Wait until hair grows long enough (at least 0.5cm) before making an appointment for Brazilian waxing or Hollywood waxing. If hairs are too short, it is hard for them to be gripped by the wax and the hair removal application will inevitably need to be applied and re-applied to any such areas, which can cause considerable discomfort.

What happens during Hollywood waxing, Brazilian waxing treatment?

I offer a very professional, friendly and caring approach to all my clients. I currently use warm strip wax using a delicate and thorough hair removal technique.

Either Hollywood waxing or Brazilian waxing requires a lot of skin stretching action to help the waxing treatment to be carried out with the minimum of pain.

What should I do after Bikini waxing treatment?

Avoid hot treatments for 24 hours after waxing – such as: bath, Sauna, Steamer, Sun Bed…
It is best to wear loose cotton material underwear after treatment.

Q. Does the Brazilian waxing hurt?
A. Yes, it does hurt some, but each person will have areas that are more and less sensitive. You can compare it to removing a band-aid from a hairy area of the body. Your tattoo hurt much worse. The area may remain a little pink for up to 24 hours if you have sensitive skin. A pretreatment can be applied to make areas less sensitive

Q. What do I wear for my Brazilian waxing?
A. Socks. A towel will be provided to drape over any areas you do not want to be waxed if you would like, otherwise clothing gets in the way and could be damaged, it is best removed altogether.

Q. How long does a Brazilian waxing last?
A. Usually your Brazilian wax will last 2-4 weeks for the average person to keep it really smooth. Some men are comfortable with up to 6 weeks of growth. Remember that if the hair gets over 1 inch long it is harder to work with.

Q. If I have shaved the area to be waxed how long do I have to wait to get it waxed?
A. Usually 2-3 weeks growth is enough in the bikini area for a Brazilian waxing.

Q. What if the hair in the private area has never been waxed, cut or shaved?
A. If the hair in the area to be waxed has never been clipped or shortened it would be OK if you trim it back to 1/4 to 1/2 inches long. This is a comfortable length to be removed by waxing.

Q. Will I get stubble from waxing?
A. No, there should be no stubble from the waxing the hair is removed not cut off. It will grow back slowly and softer as the ends are not blunt or scratchy when it does grow back. Not all hair grows back at the same rate so that keeps the hair less dense until it is all grown back. The only time the hair might break and create stubble is if it breaks because the growth direction can not be determined.

Q. What do I need to do to care for my Brazilian waxing?
A. After your waxing treatment the technician will apply aloe gel to the area that has been waxed. The area will be allowed to dry and a nourishing lotion will be applied. You should wait at least 3 hours to shower to allow the pores of the skin in the waxed area to close. On the second day after your Brazilian you should start to exfoliate the waxed area. This is done to insure the waxed area does not get any ingrown hairs. With more waxing treatments the hair will grow back slower, finer and with less density.

Q. What will my Brazilian waxing cost?
A. Brazilian waxing starts at $50. The more area involved in the waxing and the more time involved the more the cost. A consultation in person before the waxing is the only way to set an exact price for your waxing. It depends on the areas involved and the density or the hair in each area.

Q. Is it possible to wax other areas of the body in conjunction with the Brazilian wax?
A. Yes, it is possible to wax several areas at the same time and many men like to do just that. When you make your appointment be sure to mention all the areas you would like to have waxed. This will insure the preparation is completed for your Brazilian waxing as well as any other waxing needs

Q. What If I Get Turned on During a Male Brazilian Waxing?
This is a great question because things happen in the waxing room that no one ever talks about. The question that doesn’t get asked is the most embarrassing and can catch you off guard if you’re not prepared.
A. Yes folks, there is a possibility of being turned on. It is not really the sexual turn on that we are all thinking about. It is more of a physical reaction that sometimes can’t be avoided. There is a possibility that men will have an erection while on the waxing table. This is completely normal.

Q. I Have an Erection, What Do I Do?
A. Well you are not alone. It happens quite often. Relax and don’t worry. Trust me, after a few rips of the wax strips you will not have the issue anymore.

Q. Why Did I Get an Erection?
A. It is not that you are turned on it is that your genitals are being handled and it is physical reaction. Think about it. A stranger is handling your genitals. A tug here and a rub there- it’s bound to happen.

Q. Now What?
A. Just stay relaxed and do not get too embarrassed. Your Aesthetician has probably been in this situation many times before and like any other professional, she will continue on like nothing has happened.
This does not just happen to the men. There are a few women who have a physical reaction as well. Since most of the time women have very few outward reactions it doesn’t get discussed very often. Remember that it is more common then you think and your Aesthetician should be professional enough to work through the issue. Stay relaxed and the pain will take care of the rest!
